Florida Hometown Heroes Program

With both home pricing and interest rates going up, it is quickly making purchasing a home unattainable for many people, especially our front line workers.  Starting June 1st, 2022, Florida has provided $ 100 million in funds for the Florida Hometown Heroes Housing Program.  This program is specifically available to eligible frontline community workers such as law enforcement officers, firefighters, educators, healthcare professionals, childcare employees, and active military or veterans. How does the program help?

• For first-time homebuyers who are income-qualified, this program provides down payment and closing cost assistance so they can purchase a primary residence in the community in which they work and serve. 

Program Details:

• Eligible frontline workers can receive lower than market rates on an FHA, VA, RD, Fannie Mae, or Freddie Mac first mortgage, reduced upfront fees, no origination points or discount points, and down payment and closing cost assistance.
• You can receive up to 5% of the first mortgage loan amount (maximum of $25,000) in down payment and closing cost assistance.
• For the down payment and closing cost assistance, you are able to receive this in a 0%, non-amortizing, 30-year deferred second mortgage. This second mortgage only becomes due and payable, in full, upon sale of the property, refinancing of the first mortgage, if the homeowner no longer occupies the property as his/her primary residence and transfer of deed.  The Florida Hometown Heroes loan is not forgivable.
